So lately I've made coffee creamer and buttermilk pancake & waffle mix for my home and still looking at make in more. The biggest question I have been asked and thought of is it worth it? I know that I shop at salvage grocery stores to cut cost (biggest being meat and some dairy) but having everything and or needing to buy it compared to the pre-made stuff that I can just buy and make....is it worth it?
According to greatlist.com they broke down the cost of store bought items such as oatmeal packets ( 6 packets in a box) to home and here is a break down...
$0.48 each for homemade | $0.72 for Kashi brand
$0.37 per 1/2 cup homemade | $1.50 for Bear Naked brand
$0.13 per pancake homemade | $0.33 for Aunt Jemima brand
$0.25 for homemade | $0.28 per packet Quaker Oats brand
More on this can be found here
I am finding this one common thing between all the homemade vs store bought is that what I make at home I get more, way more than store bought. That's not to say all things homemade are cheaper than store bought if you know where to shop.
The following links will show you what these people have found out and maybe it can help with deciding whether or not homemade is better than store bought. In a lot of the cases there will be links to recipes to make your own. I know for me and mine buying cereal its usually gonna be store bought but in other cases like the oatmeal packets it's cheaper to make at home.
I'm just sharing my adventure in saving money and letting the information be out there.
