Bullet Journal vs Happy Planner...my thoughts

Now that I have used both a bullet journal and a happy planner I went back to my happy planner. But with all things it's an each your own. I loved the idea of the bullet journal don't get me wrong, but I found alot of things to be frustrated about too. I started off with a Happy planner and the biggest thing was the stickers and not able to draw or be creative I felt.

After using both off an on for almost a year I figured out the bullet journal wasn't for me, but I did take some ideas from it and use it for the happy planner. I was frustrated in doing layouts with the bullet journal, setting each week up, deciding on doing a 1 or 2 page spread, and taking FOREVER to do layouts after googling and pinterest for ideas. I was spending more time creating and screaming then actually planning.

Let's be honest the whole idea of a planner to better manage time than waste it right? Why am I wasting 1-3 hours doing layouts for a small planner that once I was done creating the layout I didn't use half the half the time. Pointless. With the happy planner I already have march set up and ready to use. 2-3 days setting it up this month. I use stickers and stencils and the bulk of my time was used printing out the weekly planner pages.

With the build up done here is my personal comparison of bullet journal and happy planner:

THE GOOD:

Bullet Journal
create your own layouts
different size books and no one is better or worst than the other
Creativity is limitless
Small and compact

Happy Planner
3 sizes Big 8x11 Classic 7x9 Mini roughly 3X5
Weekly planner pages that are blank waiting for creativity
Easy to set up
accessories (if you like)
finding one to fit what you need
Inserts
free printables
You can pull the pages out and put them back in once done creating/setting up

THE BAD:

Bullet Journal
Forever to set up
paper quality is good but there is ghosting and bleed through
books are expensive....look up some of them over 20$ for most
Dot Grid (the fave) is hard to find in book cover colors you like
Supplies and can be expensive and still ghosting
Amazon is a must for most things for bullet journal
Can't remove pages without wreaking the book it's self

Happy Planner
Must have the special hole punch for the 9 or 11 ring planner
Cost depends on the kits or inserts you want and if there is a sale or not
Printing at home can and often is a nightmare knowing which paper to use
Full Label sheets aren't cheap either (but you can get alot and there is price matching)
Accessories can be expensive too depending on what you get

Overall

Planners like people are varied what works for one might not work for another. I'm glad I tried both and can say for myself I'm gonna stick with the happy planner. Especially since there is so much more out there on the web, pinterest, esty and more for it. I really love being able to pull out the pages I'm working on and then "pop" them back into the disks for happy planner. I can do alot of drawings if I like, use stamps, stickers and more. It's more of a mixed media planner and the set up is up to you how you wanna do it.
