Frugal isn't about being cheap...It's about being smart!
Being frugal isn't about being cheap, but being smart. Case in point: the picture is Herbs of Provence some pretty pricey stuff almost 17$ for 1oz. of the stuff. Well if your like me and a foodie on a budget why not make your own? You can make so many of those convent seasonings you buy and cut out all the salt and alter them to what you need for you and your family...bonus there are no preservatives unless you actually add salt.
Here is the recipe for Herbs de Provence. It's awesome on fish, beef, chicken, and pork. It's a very versatile seasoning with so many uses, the possibilities are endless!
Herbs de Provence
1 Tbsp. each of dried basil, thyme, marjoram, summer savory( or savory), chervil
1/2 Tbsp. dried rosemary
1-2 tsp. dried lavender flowers
1 tsp. each dried tarragon, mint
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
1 bay leaf crumbled
Mix all herbs together in a large bowl. Put dried herbs in a container with an airtight seal and shake together. Keep out of direct sun light and stored in a cool, dark place.
This is used in all kinds of french cooking, but you can use it as an everyday seasoning on everything from seafood to grilling and salads. The list is endless on what you can use this nifty seasoning on.
